Local Schools

The vast majority of my out-of-state clients list schools as their top priority.  Most often, they have heard that East Cobb schools are the best and want to begin their search in East Cobb.  However, there is no "East Cobb School District," so it can be confusing.

I will try to explain how school districts are typically laid out and give you links to the individual school districts in the north-metro Atlanta area.  (The area I serve.)

In the metro Atlanta area, most school districts are run by counties.  In some cases, there are city schools -- for example, City of Decatur or City of Marietta -- but for the most part, you can find the school you are looking for in the county school district's website.  To make it even more confusing, there are geographic areas which are locally known -- such as East Cobb -- for which there is no zip code or town.  Locals simply know this as the area that lies east of I75, or just the eastern half of Cobb County, which is wide and fairly rectangular in shape. And there are even areas where the town name and zip code are actually in a different county than the school district -- again, East Cobb! (A very small part of Roswell is actually in Cobb County and those houses feed into the East Cobb schools.)

Did I mention this could be confusing?  Below are the different north metro area school districts and the towns which they service.  If you're still confused, email me and I'll be happy to try and clarify further.

Cobb County Schools -- Most of Marietta, Kennesaw, Powder Springs, Austell, Smyrna, most of Acworth, and a very small part of Roswell. (The City of Marietta schools encompass a small area close to the downtown Marietta area.)

Cherokee County Schools - Woodstock, Canton, Holly Springs, Ballground and Waleska.

Fulton County Schools -- Fulton County is shaped like an hourglass with the city of Atlanta in the middle.  The areas I service are called "North Fulton," which is the top-half of the hourglass.  Those towns are Roswell, Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Milton and Johns Creek.
